Summary Recommendation
Approve a request submitted by David Johnson, agent for Showcase Sports Bar for an Off-track Parimutuel Wagering license for the Showcase Sports Bar, located at 2703 S. 4th Avenue, with a term to expire on May 31, 2027. (OTB25-01) (City Administration/ City Clerk) (Lynda L. Bushong)

STRATEGIC OUTCOME:
Approval of this license aligns with City Council’s Respected and Responsible strategic outcome as it provides notification and transparency of City processes to the public.
REPORT:
Approval of a Teletrack Wagering license, including the length of term, is required by the local governing body, and may be based on public input. Pursuant to the state statutes that govern Teletrack Wagering, the City Council may determine whether the proposed location is in the public’s best interest or convenience.
Turf Paradise has operated the off-track wagering at the Showcase Sports Bar, located at 2703 S. 4th Avenue. for many years. Currently they are applying for a new permit as Skyfall 7, LLC. dba Turf Paradise and, as such, need to apply the new license to this location. The term of the permit applied for is through May 31, 2027; therefore, it is requested that the term of the license for Showcase Sports Bar be valid until that date. The owners of Showcase Sports Bar have expressed their support for this operation through a Teletrack Wagering Facility Agreement.
This request has been forwarded to Community Development, the Police and Fire Departments, Risk Management and Business Licensing for review. No objections have been received.
Upon City Council’s recommendation, this request will be forwarded to the Arizona Department of Gaming for final processing.
