SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:

Summary Recommendation

Authorize the City Administrator to execute an intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, Yuma Sector (Border Patrol) for Emergency Medical Technician clinical education and field work through the City of Yuma Fire Department. STRATEGIC OUTCOME:

This agreement furthers City Council’s Safe and Prosperous and Connected and Engaged strategic outcomes by allowing Border Patrol personnel to obtain certifications and enhance their skills through the City of Yuma Fire Department. This will enhance collaborative efforts between agencies in areas of medical care and public safety for the community.

 

REPORT:

The Yuma Fire Department requests approval of an intergovernmental agreement with U.S. Border Patrol, Yuma Sector, which will permit Border Patrol Emergency Medical Technicians and Emergency Medical Technician students to acquire fieldwork and clinical experience, through supervised ride-alongs with Yuma Fire Department staff. This IGA is for an initial three-year term and will automatically renew for an additional two-year term, unless terminated by either party.
