STRATEGIC OUTCOME:

Approval of this agreement supports the City Council’s strategic outcome of Safe and Prosperous by strengthening regional law enforcement partnerships, enhancing vehicle theft investigations, and supporting coordinated efforts to combat auto theft and related criminal activity.

The agreement also supports the Respected and Responsible strategic outcome by promoting responsible use of City resources through cost sharing and reimbursement of eligible personnel expenses by AZDPS.

REPORT:

The Yuma Police Department has maintained a partnership with the AZDPS through participation in the Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force. This intergovernmental agreement renews the existing partnership and provides for the continued assignment of one full-time, AZPOST-certified sworn officer to the Task Force.

The VTTF coordinates law enforcement resources to investigate and combat motor vehicle theft throughout Arizona. Participation provides the Yuma Police Department with opportunities for regional collaboration, information sharing, and coordinated enforcement efforts.

Under the agreement, AZDPS will reimburse the City of Yuma for 75% of eligible personnel and employee-related expenses associated with the assigned officer. The City will remain responsible for the remaining 25%. AZDPS will also provide an assigned vehicle and reimburse authorized overtime and travel expenses in accordance with the agreement.
