end
SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION:
Summary Recommendation
Authorize the use of Sourcewell cooperative contract with Musco Sports Lighting, LLC of Oskaloosa, Iowa for the purchase, delivery, and installation of the light structure system for Shaw Field in the amount of $800,000.00 (Engineering-CPA-27-162) (Eric Urfer/David Wostenberg/Robin R. Wilson)
end
STRATEGIC OUTCOME:
This project advances the City Council’s Active and Appealing strategic outcome by improving the quality, appearance, and usability of Shaw Field. Installing a modern LED lighting system will enhance playing conditions, support expanded recreational programming and increase long-term community use. It also supports the Respected and Responsible strategic outcome through responsible stewardship of public assets. Energy-efficient lighting will reduce power consumption, lower maintenance needs, and extend the facility’s lifespan. This investment in permanent infrastructure on land donated by Shaw Industries ensures reliable, safe lighting essential for maintaining high-quality athletic fields for years to come.
REPORT:
The Shaw Field Lighting Improvements project reflects the City’s ongoing commitment to enhancing existing park and athletic facilities. This phase will install a permanent lighting system to support multi-use athletic fields and significantly improve the functionality and usability of Shaw Field.
Because the field currently lacks lighting, its use is limited to daylight hours, restricting evening recreational programs and athletic activities. The new lighting system will provide consistent, reliable illumination that enhances playing conditions, extends available hours, and supports both recreational and competitive sports.
With Shaw Industries’ donation of the property, the site is now ready for long-term capital investment. Installing an energy-efficient LED lighting system is a key step in developing Shaw Field into a sustainable, high-quality athletic complex that can support year-round programming and meet the community’s long-term recreational needs.
