As such, these funds will be used to further the park revitalization efforts throughout the Yuma Parks system, aligning with the City Council’s strategic outcome of Respected and Responsible.
REPORT:
A $1 million legacy gift was established at the Arizona Community Foundation to benefit the City of Yuma Parks and Recreation Department, made possible by the generosity of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jones and Brigida Osborn. Mr. Jones Osborn was a former Arizona State Senator. His dedication to public service began during his tenure in the U.S. Army, where he served as a commissioned officer during World War II earning several commendations.
During his time in the Senate, Mr. Osborn authored several landmark pieces of legislation and initiatives. Osborn’s legacy extended beyond his legislative accomplishments. As editor of the Yuma Sun, he lobbied for significant changes in local government to enhance transparency and efficiency. This gift marks a pivotal moment in the ongoing legacy of public service and community development championed by Jones Osborn and his late wife Brigida. Yuma residents and future generations will continue to be positively impacted by the Osborn’s philanthropic spirit. This gift has been used to establish an Endowment Fund which the City will be the sole recipients of the annual fund disbursements of approximately $46,000.
