SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: Summary Recommendation

Award a construction services contract for 28th Street Widening - 45th Avenue to 33rd Drive, to the lowest responsive and responsible bidder in the amount of $4,136,000.00 to DPE Construction, Yuma, AZ. (Engineering-RFB-22-171) (David Wostenberg/Robin R. Wilson)

STRATEGIC OUTCOME:

Awarding this contract supports City Council’s strategic outcome of Safe and Prosperous by enhancing the capacity of 28th Street and installing a traffic signal at the intersection of 28th Street and Avenue C, creating a safer environment for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

 

REPORT:

This project will complete improvements initiated by private development that built the utility extension and the northern section of the street in 2019. The scope of the project encompasses, but is not limited to, the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of 28th Street and Avenue C, the construction of ADA-compliant ramps, sidewalks, curbs and gutters, street medians, and a storm drain line. This project aims to enhance the flow of both vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Bids were received from the following two general contractors:

DPE Construction, Inc.                  $4,136,000.00

Gutierrez Canales Engineering        $4,535,711.73

 

This project is anticipated to begin in the summer of 2025 and be completed in 210 calendar days.
